The members of the Working Group for the drafting of Serbia's Media Strategy and the representatives of the media and journalists' associations told Prime Minister Ana Brnabic they looked into the recommendations and comments given by Francesco Shakitano, a European Commission (EC) expert from Brussels.

The Group finished the harmonisation of open issued and sent it to Serbia's Government on October 23.

"In line with the agreement, new Media Strategy draft and Shakitano's report will be sent to the EC for an assessment," the Government said.

The representatives of EU and OSCE missions in Serbia attended the meeting along with the Norwegian ambassador to Belgrade Jørn Eugene Gjelstad. The situation with media in Serbia caused concerns among both politicians and professional organisations and associations at home and abroad.

The authorities played down the reports by prominent media associations from abroad like Freedom House and alike, but eventually agreed to work on the Strategy together with media associations in Serbia and help from the European Union.
